Crochet Gauge Calculator
Gauge is the difference between a hat that fits and a hat that lives in a drawer. A pattern’s stitch counts only work at the pattern’s gauge — change your yarn, your hook or your tension, and the same counts make a different size. This calculator fixes that: measure your own swatch (stitches and rows per 10 cm), enter the size you actually want, and it returns your cast-on stitches and row count. It works for hats, scarves, blankets and any rectangle or round worked to a measurement. Swatch first — ten honest minutes with a ruler saves hours of frogging — then let the calculator do the arithmetic.
How to use it
- Crochet a swatch, measure 10 cm across the middle (not the curling edges).
- Count your stitches per 10 cm and rows per 10 cm, and enter them below.
- Enter the width and length you want your finished piece to be.
- Use the stitch and row counts shown — and check your gauge again halfway.
Counts are rounded to whole stitches and rows. For patterned stitch repeats, round your stitch count to the nearest multiple your stitch pattern needs.
