Yarn Yardage Calculator
Running out of yarn one row from the end is a special kind of heartbreak — especially when the dye lot is gone. This calculator estimates how much yarn your project needs before you buy, from its size and your yarn weight. Enter the width and length of your piece, pick your yarn weight, and tell it how many metres are in one of your skeins (printed on the label). It returns estimated metres, yards and whole skeins. Treat it as a smart estimate, not a guarantee: stitch patterns, cables and textured stitches drink more yarn than plain ones, so for a precious project buy one extra skein. Better a spare skein than a half-finished blanket.
How to use it
- Enter your finished piece width and length in centimetres.
- Pick your yarn weight (bulky, aran, DK or fingering).
- Enter the metres per skein from your yarn label.
- Buy the skein count shown — plus one spare for textured stitches.
Estimate only: metres per square cm by weight (bulky 0.08, aran 0.09, DK 0.10, fingering 0.12). Textured and cabled stitches use more — buy one extra skein for those.
