Crochet Hook Size Converter
American patterns say “H hook”, British ones say “size 6”, and your hook itself probably just says “5.00 mm” — three systems for the same tool, and mixing them up changes your gauge completely. This converter lines them up: pick a size in any one system and it shows you the other two instantly. It covers the hooks most makers actually own, from fine 2.25 mm hooks up to chunky 15 mm ones. A few very large sizes have no traditional UK number, and the converter says so honestly instead of inventing one. Keep it bookmarked next to your hook roll, and check it before starting any pattern written in a different country’s system.
How to use it
- Pick your hook size in millimetres, US letters or UK numbers — any one will do.
- The other two systems update instantly to match.
- Check your pattern’s system, then grab the hook that matches.
- Swatch with that hook before starting — size is only half of gauge.
Standard yarn-council equivalents. Very large hooks (12 mm and 15 mm) have no traditional UK number, shown as —.
